The Top 10 Sports Movies of All Time
There have been thousands of sports movies throughout the years. Some have been absolute crap and most are mediocre at best, but there are that select few that remain deep-seated in our memories. Those movies not only invoke our passion of sports, they manage to cross over and teach us greater life lessons. They teach us the importance of hard work and learning from our mistakes. They teach us that the impossible can come true. That’s what I consider a great sports movie. Well, either that or it has to be really funny.

Box Office Flops: More Than Meets the Eye?
There’s something oddly satisfying about seeing a big-budget movie flop. Whenever we hear about these ambitious, special effects-laden extravaganzas going down in flames we get an odd feeling of schadenfreude.

Movie Review: Black Snake Moan
Read the movie review of the 2007 film Black Snake Moan, staring Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci. A God-fearing bluesman (Jackson) takes to a wild young woman (Ricci) who, as a victim of childhood sexual abuse, looks everywhere for love, never quite finding it.

Alpha Dog
Nick Cassavetes is the son of one of America’s most revered film directors. John Cassavetes (1929-89) made cheap cinema look intellectually respectable. He was pure jazz. His shooting style was fast and loose, and his plots were ugly. But he adored actors.

Movie Review: Casino Royale (2006), Part 1
Daniel Craig as James Bond is good but very different in this latest addition to the long-standing string of Bond movies which depicts a young Bond earning his 00 status. This is a prequel to everything that comes after it. We are watching Bond coming into his own by proving his metal to a skeptical M.

James Gandolfini: What’s Next For Tony Soprano?
It must be though to be Jim Gandolfini these days. He is so thoroughly identified in our minds with the Tony Soprano character that it is going to be hard to watch him as anybody else.

Why do we love The Sopranos?
There is so much guilt involved in loving The Sopranos, perhaps similar to the guilt of enjoying a boxing match.

The Transformers Movie
If there is one movie that’s destined for today’s technological and special effects advances, it comes out in July of 2007: the Transformers.

Where Are All The Good Movies?
As more and more movies are emerging, the race for original ideas is far from over. Yet how much of what we see today hasn’t already been seen before?

Blood Diamond: This Is Africa
You heard right. Not Sparta, but AFRICA! I finally watched Blood Diamond last night, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Danny Archer, Djimon Hounsou as Solomon Vandy, and Jennifer Connelly as Maddy Bowen. The movie is about the illegal trafficking of diamonds in Africa - diamonds are harvested in Sierra Leone, smuggled into Liberia, and from there, sold to the rest of the world. The film tries to take on a documentary approach, meant to inform the world about the horrors behind those pretty little stones, but who are they kidding. Leonard DiCaprio doesn’t do documentaries. This movie is meant to entertain the masses. And that it does, quite well in fact - Blood Diamond was nominated for 5 Oscars and a Golden Globe.

Death of a President: the Most Controversial Film
An ingenious, well-made political thriller! Winner of the International Critics’ Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, Death of a President is a fictional 2008 TV documentary broadcast on the assassination of President George W. Bush on October 19th, 2007.

He becomes a voyeur as his interests turn outside the windows of his suburban home towards those of his neighbors, one of which Kale begins to suspect is a serial killer. But, are his suspicions merely the product of cabin fever and his overactive imagination?

Why Don Imus Should be Sacked
A furor is raging around Don Imus, the talk show radio host for the racist offensive remarks he made about of Black women basketball players with many Black leaders demanding his sacking. In this case, and for three reasons, Imus should go.

Why the Growth of Racism has Little to do with Racists
What is truth and how is perception of it affecting our world order and quality of life? Racism emerges from someone’s truth but is actually controlled and condoned by the silent majority.

Maybe Imus Was Listening to Some Verbally Abusive Rap Music
Was IMUS just a parrot for verbal abuse that he is hearing everyday in music and from others?

Should Dave Letterman Be Fired?
First Don Imus, now Rutgers University wants Dave removed from the airwaves.

Imus Suspended for Racial Slurs
CBS Radio and MSNBC both said Monday they were suspending Don Imus’ morning talk show for two weeks as a protest grew about his reference last week to members of the Rutgers women’s basketball team as nappy-headed hos.

Eye To Eye: Don Imus’ Controversy
Katie Couric presents Richard Schlesinger’s interview with Rev. Al Sharpton. They discuss radio host Don Imus’ racially-charged remarks about a women’s college basketball team.

MSNBC, NBC and CBS: Disclose Suspension of Imus Show
Does this suspension satisfy the level of harm caused by Don Imus’s racial slurs … not … !!! How much of a financial deterrent would it take to protect the public interests, and prevent future occurrences of this nature, by network broadcasters?

Nappy Hos
HotConflict.com covering racism and the Don Imus comments to Rutger’s Womens Basketball team. Imus suspended from MSNBC. Racism in Islam from the Roots. Alison Stewart is black host of daily show The Most on MSNBC.

Don Imus’s Racist Remarks
These were the exact words of Don…while saying it…he was still laughing…but I’m not sure why he’s the only one in the spot light…but who ever he was talking to…also said sexist remarks.

Lenny Bruce has an answer for Michael Richards and Don Imus
Many of you on here are too young to know who Lenny Bruce was. He was the father of observational comedy. While he was far from the first to use blue language, he was possibly the first to use social satire to remove the power of what some consider offensive words.

Movie Review: The Pursuit of Happyness
In 1981, Chris Gardner was a struggling salesman in little needed medical bone density scanners while his wife toiled in double shifts to support the family including their young son, Christopher. In the face of this difficult life, Chris has the desperate inspiration to try for a stockbroker internship where one in twenty has a chance of a lucrative full time career. Even when his wife leaves him because of this choice, Chris clings to this dream with his son even when the odds become more daunting by the day. Together, father and son struggle through homelessness, jail time, tax seizure and the overall punishing despair in a quest that would make Gardner a respected millionaire.

Movie Review: Little Miss Sunshine
The story centers on the typical dysfunctional family, a stressed mother, slightly over bearing father, swearing grandfather, awkward teenage boy, suicidal uncle and charming little girl. Now if that doesn’t sound like a recipe for laughter then I don’t know what does!

Movie Review: Kamp Katrina
Kamp Katrina, a moving documentary about a small group of Hurricane Katrina survivors in New Orleans, had its East Coast premiere at the Florida Film Festival recently. Ms. Pearl, a Native American and lifetime New Orleans resident, offers her backyard garden as a temporary tent city for 14 residents who lost their homes because of the hurricane and subsequent flooding. For up to six months, Ms. Pearl and her construction-worker husband generously provide space, hot and cold running water, and comfort to the displaced survivors, many of whom have problems with substance abuse and mental illness.

Movie Trailer: Kamp Katrina
Ms. Pearl — a New Orleans native — converts her backyard into a tent city where 14 displaced people live for 6 months. She provides construction jobs and basic resources to help them assist in rebuilding the city. The situation gradually goes violently awry and she is confronted with an array of abuses amidst a broken city.

Chris Gardner: Excerpt from The Pursuit of Happyness
Self-made entrepreneur Chris Gardner reads an excerpt from his book, The Pursuit of Happyness, recounting his experience at an EST group therapy seminar in 1970s San Francisco. This video was taped at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco. This clip contains explicit language. Chris Gardner in conversation with 20/20 producer Lynn Redmond about his newly published autobiography, The Pursuit of Happyness. Gardner’s fascinating story is also the subject of a movie of the same name starring Will Smith as Gardner and Smith’s son Jaden as Gardner’s son, Chris Jr. The film was shot in the Bay Area and was released in December 2006 by Columbia Pictures. Gardner is President and CEO of Rich LLC. He is also an avid philanthropist committed to assisting organizations involved in education and economic development.

Charles Frazier: Following Up Cold Mountain
Author Charles Frazier talks about the pressures involved in following up his first novel, Cold Mountain - a bestseller and National Book Award winner - with his latest book, Thirteen Moons. Charles Frazier, the best-selling author of Cold Mountain, discusses his long awaited second novel Thirteen Moons. Currently on best-seller lists everywhere, this story is steeped in history, rich in insight, and filled with moments of sudden beauty. Charles Frazier’s Thirteen Moons is the story of one man’s remarkable life, spanning a century of relentless change. At the age of twelve, an orphan named Will Cooper is given a horse, a key, and a map and is sent on a journey through the wilderness to the edge of the Cherokee Nation, the uncharted white space on the map. Will is a bound boy, obliged to run a remote Indian trading post. As he fulfills his lonesome duty, Will finds a father in Bear, a Cherokee chief, and is adopted by him and his people, developing relationships that ultimately forge Will’s character. All the while, his love of Claire, the enigmatic and captivating charge of volatile and powerful Featherstone, will forever rule Will’s heart. In a distinct voice filled with both humor and yearning, Will tells of a lifelong search for home, the hunger for fortune and adventure, the rebuilding of a trampled culture, and above all an enduring pursuit of passion. As he comes to realize, when all else is lost and gone forever, there is yearning. One of the few welcome lessons age teaches is that only desire trumps time. Will Cooper, in the hands of Charles Frazier, becomes a classic American soul: a man devoted to a place and its people, a woman, and a way of life, all of which are forever just beyond his reach. Thirteen Moons takes us from the uncharted wilderness of an unspoiled continent, across the South, up and down the Mississippi, and to the urban clamor of a raw Washington City. Throughout, Will is swept along as the wild beauty of the nineteenth century gives way to the telephones, automobiles, and encroaching railways of the twentieth. Steeped in history, rich in insight, and filled with moments of sudden beauty, Thirteen Moons is an unforgettable work of fiction by an American master.

Michael Arndt: Themes of Little Miss Sunshine
Screenwriter Michael Arndt talks about the major themes present in his Academy Award-winning script for the film Little Miss Sunshine. In 2000, screenwriter Michael Arndt had no credits, no agents, no publishing history when he took a year off to write a saleable script that got him an agent and a deal and, five years after that, one of the big hits of 2006. A new book, Little Miss Sunshine: The Shooting Script, details the fascinating behind-the-scenes story of the indie runaway hit with an introduction, afterword, and enlightening scene notes from Arndt. Starring Greg Kinnear, Toni Collette, Steve Carell, Abigail Breslin, Paul Dano, and Alan Arkin, the film strikes a nerve with everyone who’s ever been awestruck by how their muddled families seem to make it after all. Michael Arndt offers a rare insider’s look and considered thoughts on one of the film’s most prevalent themes, success vs. failure.

Breaking Into Hollywood: Do I Need to Read the Trades?
I very regularly hear the question: Why should I read the trades? Here’s the quick answer: you have to read the trades to know what’s going on in the industry you’re trying to earn work, income and respect in. I think the better question is: HOW should I read the trades? That’s because once you zero in on the key information, you’ll be less overwhelmed by all of the additional stories that make reading the trades feel like such a task.

Breaking Into Hollywood: What Materials Do I Need to Market Myself Effectively?
Recently, I was helping a friend of mine put together materials for an upcoming project. We requested a bio from one of the participants three times, and it finally arrived a few days later, with typos. At that moment I thought, Sometimes Hollywood hopefuls are so focused on what they hope employers are going to give them, they aren’t prepared with what they’re supposed to give US. So here are the five marketing materials, at minimum, you need to always have on hand to advance as a professional in show business.

Breaking Into Hollywood: How Much Should I Ask People to Pay Me?
If you’re starting out or moving up in the entertainment industry, knowing what pay rate to ask for is particularly hard. In general, it’s very important not to sell yourself too short OR price yourself too high. What determines this is not just the market rate for the services you’re delivering. When you’re setting your fee for a job, take nine key things into consideration - every time.

Breaking Into Hollywood: How Do I Sell My Own Reality TV Show?
How do you sell a reality show? Let’s start with the gut answer. If you’re like most people who work in reality TV, you sell a show by working for some years in reality television, amassing good credits and production experience, building strong relationships with production companies, networks and vendors, running someone else’s shows for trench education, then pitching your concepts and your solid reputation to make your first sale(s). If that doesn’t sound like you, or especially if it does, please read on.

Breaking Into Hollywood: How Do I Sell My New Screenplay?
When new screenwriters finish their scripts, they often begin the search for a rep to submit the work around town. But is that the best way to do it? Well, sure! But it’s not the ONLY way to do it. As you prep to get your script sold, base your marketing strategy on these three steps.

Follow the Career of Will Ferrell
From A Night at the Roxbury in 1998 to Blades of Glory (2007), this comedic genius is already a legend in his own time. A graduate of the University of Southern California, Will Ferrell became interested in performing while a student at University High School in Irvine, California, where he made his school’s daily morning announcements over the public address system in disguised voices. He started as a member of the Los Angeles comedy/improvisation group The Groundlings, where fellow cast members Ana Gasteyer, Maya Rudolph and former Saturday Night Live (1975) repertory players such as Laraine Newman, Jon Lovitz and Phil Hartman began their careers. It was there he met Chris Kattan and the two became good friends and both went on to Saturday Night Live (1975) later. He has also appeared on several television programs, including Strangers with Candy (1999), Grace Under Fire (1993) and Living Single (1993) during his time at The Groundlings. Will also lent his voice to the armless and legless dad of cartoon family The Oblongs. In 1995 he became a feature cast member at Saturday Night Live (1975) during the show’s rapid re-casting. He was declared quite possibly the worst cast member ever during his first season. However, his talents of impersonations and range of characters shot him forward to making him arguably the greatest Saturday Night Live (1975) cast member ever. During his seven year run he is one of the few cast members to ever be nominated for an Emmy for a performance and played George W. Bush during the 2000 elections. He’s appeared in every Saturday Night Live (1975) movie since his premiere on the show in 1995. In 2002 he left Saturday Night Live (1975) and was the only cast member to ever receive a farewell from all the current cast members at the end of the season finale show. Since leaving the show Will has pursued a career in films. In 2000 he married and now lives in L.A.

Are We Done Yet? Movie Review
Ice Cube plays a agitated publisher who moves his new family to the country to buy a house that is more than he bargained for. Lots of slapstick, crashing, smashing, and laughing, when his realtor sells him more than a fixer up dream house. Newlyweds Nick (Ice Cube) and Suzanne (Long) decide to move to the suburbs to provide a better life for their two kids. But their idea of a dream home is disturbed by a contractor (McGinley) with a bizarre approach to business.

It was a treat to hang with this guy for sure! The sequel picks up 10 years later. It’s about what happens when that lazy, 20-something malaise lasts into your 30s. Scene-Stealers.com reviews Frank Miller’s 300 the movie
Eric and J.D., unorthodox film critics from Scene-Stealers.com, discuss the most violent movie since Apocalypto and the gayest movie since Brokeback Mountain. In the Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC an alliance of Greek city-states fought the invading Persian army in the mountain pass of Thermopylae. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the enemy in one of the most famous last stands of history. Persian King Xerxes lead a Army of well over 100,000 (Persian king Xerxes before war has about 170,000 army) men to Greece and was confronted by 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians and other Slave soldiers. Xerxes waited for 10 days for King Leonidas to surrender or withdraw left with no options he moved. The battle lasted for about 3 days and after which all 300 Spartans were killed. The Spartan defeat was not the one expected as a local shepherd named Ephialtes defected to the Persians and informed Xerxes of a separate path through Thermopylae, which the Persians could use to outflank the Greeks.
